Scholarships and Finance Support

In addition to Social Scholarships for Higher Education, there are several other scholarship programs such as Merit Scholarships, destined to recognize and reward students with high academic performance, and also Support Scholarships for students with financial needs and who, simultaneously, have recognized academic merit.

Social Scholarships from the University of Lisbon

The application for Social Action Scholarships is made directly with Direção Geral do Ensino Superior (DGES), during the application for higher education, being the Social Services of the University of Lisbon responsible for the atributtion.

There are other supports such as Social Awareness Scholarships and Social Merit Scholarships whose application is made directly with the Social Action Services within deadlines that do not coincide with the Social Action Scholarships.

Merit Scholarships

Merit Scholarships are awarded to students attending university at the University of Lisbon with exceptional academic performance, regardless of their income. These scholarships are awarded in accordance with the Merit Scholarship Regulation for Students of Higher Education Institutions (Order No. 13531/2009, 9th of June). The value of the scholarship is defined annually by the State, corresponding to five times the national minimum wage at the beginning of the academic year in which it is awarded.

The award of this scholarship is the responsibility of the University of Lisbon’ Rector  and the selection of students is done by the Pedagogical Council of Técnico. Consult more information:

Solidary Fund from Graduate Students

SOLIDARY FUND FROM GRADUATED STUDENTS TO CURRENT STUDENTS

The Association of Former Students of the Instituto Superior Técnico (AAAIST), in pursuit of its statutory objectives of linking to the School and the awarding of scholarships, constituted the AAAIST Solidarity Fund.

This fund allows the allocation of support scholarships for the continuation of studies, in the amount of the annual tuition fee; in return, the beneficiary student will provide services of interest to Técnico, for a total of 120 hours. This service may include, in particular, support for institutional events.

ASSOCIATION OF FORMER STUDENTS OF IST
 ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF ULISBOA

The Alumni Association of the University of Lisbon provides, in 2020, a solidarity scholarship for students who demonstrate academic merit and prove economic difficulties in ensuring their regular attendance in higher education.

Support Scholarships

Support for Continuing Studies are cash benefits, directly granted by third parties. They are intended to fill specific situations arising from contingencies or financial difficulties with a negative impact on the normal academic performance and academic record of the Técnico students, 1st or 2nd Cycle, which cannot be properly resolved within the scope of the support provided by the Social Action system for Higher Education.

Taking into account the economic situation of Portugal and the financial needs that affect many students, Técnico has sought to establish several partnerships with the goal of creating Scholarship Programs. Thus, several scholarships are awarded each year to support the continuation of studies, which aim to finance the costs of attending a course in higher education (school expenses, accommodation and general expenses).
